New Group pending

There is in the works, a new knitting group / guild in London, Ontario. I don't have many details at this point but I can say that the first meeting will be February 13, 2012 at Cotton-By-Post.

As I receive information I will do my best to update here. This promises to be an open group with potential for events and speakers, especially with the backing of the LYS. I should mention that this is NOT in anyway being held by the store, it is only the site where it is going to be held. I'm not certain if the store will have any information but you can try.

Gathering Threads

This weekend the London chapter of the Canadian Embroiderers' Guild will be holding Gathering Threads event. It starts today, May 12th and runs until May 15 at a few locations throughout London. Please see the link for more details.

Don't be confused by the embroidery creators of this event, it truly is a fiber and textile event. There will be rughookers, tatters, smockers, quilters, binders and the Forest City Knitters will be participating this year too! Please stop by and say Hi, Corazenia & myself there this Saturday between 1 and 5.

Forest City Knitters, aka FCK

Greetings one and all! There are still many groups that meet regularly around London Ontario, one that has been doing so for many years is the Forest City Knit Club. This group has been around in excess of 14 years and is currently trying to grow in membership, diversity and expanding their offerings.

Monthly meetings during fall, winter and spring on the 3rd Tuesday of the month.
Small membership fee but you are welcome to check it out before signing up.
Ample parking available

Did you know that some retailers offer a discount with a guild or group membership? FCK does provide a membership card that you can use for this purpose!

The May 2011 meeting will be featuring Joan from the Little Red Mitten!

It's been a while since I've posted here, actually any where. I've been a little occupied with moving, Christmas knitting etc. Anyway, if you do happen to stop in here and are interested in contributing to this blog, are local to London (and area) please comment and let me know. Knit-London has many voices and I am sure there are some that have no interest in setting up a personal blog, but could be interested in a few posts here.

I've created a few little flyers/hand outs that I will bring to the forth coming Knit London meeting. As always, please feel free to spread word of our meeting on the 1st Monday of the Month at Coffee Culture on Dundas. Everyone is welcome; knitters of all levels, crocheters or crafter of any sort. The meeting can be for any one that would just like a night out with like minded peeps.

There were several attempts at meeting outside of the standard one last month. I'm sorry to say that we didn't wind up connecting, however I would still very happily post anything for anyone trying to get another meeting night arranged. I would very much like to do this more than once a month. I know that there are people that can't make Mondays - or downtown. Suggest away!

If you haven't started your Christmas shopping yet or if you just want to stop in and get something for yourself, this craft sale is not to be missed. The pottery is lovely and the weaving is to be gushed over.

I've honestly never been to this sale, but I've seen the products . .and I'll be there. So if you go and see me comin' watch out. I've got some pointy elbows.

BTW, the money goes to a great cause!

November Meet up

Not sure if anyone actually reads this or not. The next meet up will be tomorrow, Monday Nov 3. At Coffee Culture on Dundas. I'm sure that there will be a knitter/crafter or 2 starting at around 6.

Please join us. You can't miss us. And if you would like to learn, please feel free to come! We are a rather boisterous group so you may have to speak up . . but if we know you need help, we're there for you!

BTW, if you care to bring a non-perishable food item for the London Food Bank, I will be dropping off contributions made at the gathering.

I haven't had much time to be on-line lately so I copied this from Kata's Ravelry post. If you have never joined us before, we are an informal group and openly welcome knitters or crafters of all levels and genders (yes, we's gots some boyz!). ATTENTION!

For the next Monday meetup (Monday September 1st) we are TEST DRIVING a new location… We’re going to meet up at COFFEE CULTURE on Dundas, at the corner of Dundas and Wellington… it is beside the Scot’s Corner, and across from the library entrance of the Galleria.

Parking is free after 6pm down the street (on Dundas, between Wellington and Waterloo… in front of the storefronts there). The meters are free after 6pm on weekdays and Saturday (free all day Sunday).

They are expecting us, and apparently can accomodate up to 60 people (their words).

See you all there!

The Forest City Knit Club has been meeting on the 3rd Tuesday of the month for years (possibly over 24) at various locations, but has called Robinson Memorial home for some time now. What originally was a smaller group of less than 15 has magically grown, thanks to word of mouth and Ravelry to a group of around 20+. We welcome guests to and new members (with a small annual fee) to come and join us.

I think we surprise the staff when we turn up. I got the impression that they thought we would either not turn up, or we would be a bunch of tea toddlers. We've proved them wrong on both accounts and we are growing!

Forest City Knit Club - Feb08 Meeting

The FCKC had their monthly meeting Tuesday February 19th. It was one of the largest gatherings that we have had due to the influx of members thanks to Ravelry. Even with the amount of people that we have taken into the fold it still remains a great group of knitters and always a blast.

Ok, so I only caught half the group via camera, but really how could one blame me? They was far too much laughter and mirth going on where I was sitting. Nadine on one side and this . . . .
. . . on the other. Dudes, we were both so freaking tired and had the giggles. We were accused of sneaking something into the refreshments we were served. Really, it was just the giggles, fueled by over tiredness and close proximity.

Giggles, knitting, conversation. It was a great evening!

First meet-up of 2008

Sadly I didn't take any pictures. But the turn out was excellent! Many Ravelry peeps and many non-Ravelry. I'd say the head counts was close to 20, far better than the 8 we had at the first meeting. Of course that was because of the snow storm.

It was great seeing and meeting everyone in person! If you happen to have any pics that you would like posted, please let me know!!

1st Wortley Roadhouse meet-up!

Monday December 3, saw London's first snow storm and the first meet-up of Knit-London. Unfortunately the weather kept more than a few people away. Just the same 7 knitters and one watcher was more than the staff at the Roadhouse expected. We knitters are a hardy bunch!!

We had lots of room so we spread out and took over the room. The weather outside was crap and it continued to snow, but we all had a great time chatting, eating and getting to know each other. Considering that the evening started at 7pm, most of us were there until almost 10pm.

I can't wait until the next meet up on January 7th! Be sure to mark it on your calendars and tell your friends!! Hopefully we will have better weather, but I'm sure that some will turn out just the same. A big thank you to the ladies that braved the snow and came out to join us!!

There will be a gathering of knitters (with munchies and drinks, if you so desire) to be held on the first Monday of each month at the Wortley Roadhouse. Unfortunately the establishment wasn't willing to give us their "Village Room" on a Friday, so we will have to make do with Monday. Besides, we won't be missing any prime TV time.

Please feel free to share this information. The more the merrier! And if you would rather spin, crotchet or what-have-you, you are more than welcome to join us!!

Adding some jewlery to your site - Ringsurf part 2

Ok, now that you've joined and gotten the code, you'll need to add it to your blog. Before you do that, you will need to save a copy of the button picture to your computer and then your Flickr account. Simply right click on the Knit-London button and save it to your Flickr account. You will add this into the code shortly.

Sign into your (Blogger) blog and go to Customize. Click on the Template tab, and go to the Page Elements area. Displayed will be the general layout of your blog's template and elements which you already have and elements you can add. Click on 'Add a Page Element'.

A pop-up or window will open listing the various elements that you can now add. You will be adding HTML/JavaScript - click and open. The first pop-up will close and new window will open for Configer HTML/JavaScript.

You can choose how the ring will look on your blog. Do you want the button or would you rather just have the words? As long as the RingSurf links are displayed beneath the words or the button, the choice is yours!

If you prefer the button free look: A) Add the title (Knit-London) at the top plus the ring code below with no button

If you would like the button: B) Leave the title blank, add the code and insert the button picture.

(both A & B) Copy the 'code' you were sent in it's entirety and paste it into space provided in the window. Then look for this information :

No button: A) Be sure you have entered the Ring's title, otherwise it will be left blank and you will only have the RingSurf links on your blog. Unfortunately this may make it more challenging for people to surf the ring or recognize what it is. Simply enter Knit-London in the title area. Once that is complete, highlight and erase only the above line from the code. This will remove the image information.

Button: B) You've got the code pasted in the window, now look for the above line in the code. Once you find it, you need to add the image's URL from your Flickr account to that spot. It should look something like this:

In Flickr go to the image and click all sizes and copy the pictures static URL. Paste the URL exactly where the words insert button image here are and remove those words.

Save your work. The editing window will close and you can preview your blog to check if you like the placement of your new button. Move it around if you wish. Be sure to save all of your changes before exiting.

Tada! You've added a ring to your blog.

Joining the Ring - part 1

Greetings all!! I'm glad that you've managed to find the blog.

First if you are looking to join the ring, please go to the "ring" button on the right. You will notice there is a "join" link below it, click on it. You will be taken directly to the RingSurf: Join Ring page. You should see a page saying submit site to Knit-London. It should be a form with blank areas saying: Site Title, Site Owner, E-mail Address, Sit URL, Ring Code (don't worry about this one) and so on. This is supposed to be your blog information.

Fill 'er out and be sure to make note of you pass word some where. You should get an e-mail from RingSurf confirming your request and I believe it will give you your user name again. You should also receive an e-mail with the "code" to add to your blog. This is the information your blog needs to create the "ring" on your page.

Right - easy part over.

If you've been living under a rock for the last few months you may not have heard of the new hot thing for knitters and crocheters alike, Ravelry. Although still in beta, it is a fantastic site enabling crafters to set up personal "notebooks" containing their projects, stash, queue, needles&hooks, books, blog posts and more! Not only does this fantastic site allow crafters to organize their passion, but can also bring individuals together like a social networking site.

This blog was set up to accompany the web ring started for Knit-London; a group of knitters that met through the wondrous Ravelry. If you are a part of Ravelry, are in queue to join or just local to London, Ontario please feel free to join the web ring!
